La Ronde (2022)

The piece is an adaptation of Schnitzler's play La Ronde, restaged in the 1970s. Keeping its circular structure, La Ronde depicts 4 interlinking couples. La Ronde is primarily a fashion film, exploring the tensions and contractions latent in the 1970s through the lens of fashion.
“By using disparate imagined characters from the 1970s, formed and developed through extensive visual, academic and material research, the film will visually explore different, interweaving strands of society. Taking influence from references from 1970s films such as Opening Night (John Cassavetes) and Tommy (Ken Russell), as well as erotic films, street and documentary photography from the period, the film simultaneously engages with everyday and spectacular elements of 1970s style and identities.
The scenes are highly textural and information-rich - depicting people in spaces. These characters and sets will feel both realistic and unnatural, actualising the dramaturgical theories of Erving Goffman - to whom all sociality is performance - via composition and framing influenced by Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Ingmar Bergman.”
